Local School Districts Postpone Author's Visit

Because of the recent uproar over the "N" word written in a short story by Chris Crutcher, both Grand Haven and West Ottawa public schools have postponed his visit with students.

This all stems from a teacher in Grand Rapids reading this story out loud to her class. Some overly sensitive parents were outraged their children would hear this word uttered by someone other than Snoop Dogg, Ludacris or 50 Cent.

The official line is that the author was to come and speak about pursuing a career as a writer, but the recent events would shift the discussion to him becoming a "free speech advocate".

Wow...I can really see the wisdom there. Wouldn't want him to discuss the issue of free speech amongst the High School Students. Naaa...they're a little too young and impressionable to handle such deep discussions.

Where Have I Been?

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. I've had a little motivation problem lately. Just to give you an idea of what it's been like lately, I read newspapers from Thursday, Friday and Saturday this morning. To say I'm a little behind would be an understatement.

More to come...stay tuned...as if anyone actually reads my stuff!!

It's been a busy week...

In case you missed it, I am running for school board. Me, and six others, running for two spots. Both incumbents are running. This means 4 of us need to wear out some shoes here in the next couple of months.

I will be setting up a campaign blog this weekend to direct folks to my views on various issues. If you'd like to donate to the cause, you know how to get a hold of me.

Stay tuned for updates...

Dubya's S o/the U Show

Did Dubya just say he was going to look at the IRS Code to try to simplify? Isn't that promised EVERY time there is a S o/the U Show? When will it get done?

Dubya just got booed when he was talking about the urgency of "saving" Social Security. Nice. Gotta love Freedom of speech!

I love watching this...The Demopublicans refuse to applaud programs that differ from what they believe should be done. Sitting on their hands...that'll show'em. I'm actually quite in favor of having a bit of control over this sham of a savings plan. Any money out of the control of Demopublicans and Republocrats is much safer. I'm certain they would eventually find a way to end the program because of a more compelling need for that money down the road...in their minds, that is.

Oooh...Support for a Constitutional amendment protecting the institution of marriage - NOT DEFINING marriage. What exactly does that mean, Dubya? Gary Bauer will want to know.

Are the Demopublicans trying to look as though they are sleeping? They refuse to applaud anything Dubya says. It's a beautiful strategy being employed by the President. He should spend the entire speech talking about things he knows the Demopublicans hate. All the sound bites and photo ops splashed across the media later today and tomorrow will show the old geezers as disinterested. Nice.
