Memorial Day 2008

A great day today. Weather was great...good friends and food...a very nice parade honoring local veterans...Not sure I could have asked for anything more!
I thought I would post a sun-drenched photo of my Achilles after 5 weeks of recovery. (soon to be 6) The indented lines are from an elastic sock I've been wearing to help with blood flow and limit swelling. It's helped quite a bit, but I don't think I need it anymore.

These Crutches are FAST!

Fastest crutches known to man!

We Have Clearance, Clarence...

I had my 3 week, post surgical check up this past week and all systems are 'go'!

  • I can start putting weight on my left foot, with boot, and ditch the crutches over the next week to 10 days.

  • I no longer need to sleep with the boot.

These two tidbits are both liberating in their own right. Last night was the first time in 3 weeks I didn't have to sleep with the monstrosity on my foot - and it was blissful. Shifting in bed had been a battle and a risk to my knee everytime I turned over. Ditching the crutches will help remove the 'needy' tag to my existance - which will be a welcome change to both me and anyone I live or work with from here on out.

Day 17, and Counting...

This is the 17th day since surgery. I have to admit, I feel a lot better than I imagined I would. I'm still on crutches for the next two weeks and can't put any weight on my left foot. That's been tough. Crutches will kill me in the end, I'm convinced.
I call this shot "Thick and Thin".
